HISTORIC HOME TOUR: Cook House

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A beautifully-restored Queen Anne home is one of the gems featured on this year’s Azalea Festival Home Tour.

The Cook house is located at 816 Dock Street.

Delinda Harrelson purchased the property a year ago with the intention of renovating and reselling the home.

She attempted to keep as many original features of the house as possible including the doorbell, hardwood floors, siding and hardware.

Since some of the rooms were small, she removed a few walls to open up the living and dining rooms to the kitchen area.

While restoring the home, Harrelson learned the Cook family who originally owned the home, were local winemakers.

“They purchased the house in 1910, lived here for four years and then ended up selling it to the Andrews who were also entrepreneurs,” Harrelson said. “Its just fascinating to see that most of the owners, approximately six that we’ve tracked down so far, were entrepreneurs.”

Harrelson expanded and modernized the kitchen with new cabinets, appliances and a ceramic, grey tile backsplash.

The large front porch, offers the perfect place to relax.

The Historic Wilmington Foundation’s Azalea Festival Home Tour runs Saturday, April 14 and Sunday, April 15. Click here http://ncazaleafestival.org/event/historic-home-tour/ for ticket information.
