Hoax bomb threat shuts down bridge

A bomb threat brought traffic going onto Topsail Island to a standstill Thursday.

Officials closed the Surf City Bridge around 11:30 Thursday morning.

Eight departments, including the FBI and Department of Homeland Security, responded to the scene. They determined the bomb threat was a hoax.

They opened the bridge around 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Police are still investigating the source of the threat.
