Hoggard volleyball team falls in state finals
RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — Charlotte Providence won its fifth North Carolina High School Athletic Association volleyball championship in convincing fashion on Saturday as the Panthers rolled to a straight-set victory over Wilmington Hoggard in the 4-A final at Reynolds Coliseum.
Megan Edwards earned Most Valuable Player honors as she led Providence to a 25-20, 25-18, 25-12 triumph over Wilmington Hoggard. The 6-0 senior middle hitter had 12 kills, 12 digs and four aces as Providence finished the season with a 28-2 overall record.
The Panthers were in the state finals for the seventh time and were the state runners-up in 2010.
Hoggard was making its fifth appearance in the volleyball state championship but is still looking for its initial state title in the sport. Jamie Jarrell led the Vikings, 22-4, with six kills.
