Hoggard takes to the court for home debut
It was the home opener for the Hoggard girl’s Tuesday night, they welcomed Topsail to Hebbe Gym. Topsail put up a valiant effort, but the night belonged to the Lady Vikes. They improved to 2-1 on the season.
Head coach Ray Betty talked about the team’s big 60-31 win. “We’re 2-1 right now. We came out and played Kinston well, went up to Lake Norman, didn’t have a great game there, but we came back tonight on our home floor. We needed some home cooking and we did well tonight.”
In the night cap, it was the season debut for the Hoggard boys.
Hoggard led by just four at halftime, but the three point shooting of Lawson Arhens helped the Vikes open up a double digit lead. From there it was all Stillman White and Hoggard. The Vikings guard led the way with 22 points as Hoggard went on for the 63-43 win.
“We lost a lot of players this year, from last year. Everyone’s getting their new roles and we were a little jittery coming out, but after the first quarter, I think we relaxed,” said White.
Hoggard coach Brett Queen added, “It is nice to have a couple of guards like we have in Stillman and Lawson. They really put a lot of pressure on the defense; Stillman with being able to penetrate and also knock down shots and Lawson is one of the best shooters we’ve ever had.”
