Holden Beach repairs dunes
It’s been a few months since Tropical Storm Hanna hit our shores, and Holden Beach is finally finished repairing the sand dunes that she washed away.
The dunes were instrumental in protecting beachfront homes. The water currently comes right up to the dune’s edge.
But town manager David Hewett says enough sand will be brought in to expand the beach to one hundred and fifty feet. Hewett says a FEMA inspector has approved the repairs. “He was really impressed with the fact that it was done right, according to permit, and the fact that we were coming right behind them as they were building the dunes and vegetating it.”
Hewett says FEMA will pay most of the nearly $200,000 the town spent on the repairs.
