Homeowners could cover cost of maintaining inlet
NEW HANOVER COUNTY — The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners is meeting now to decide if some local homeowners will help covering the cost of maintaining Mason Inlet.
In 2002 the inlet was relocated to help protect properties on Figure Eight Island and Wrightsville Beach from falling into the ocean.
About 1,000 homeowners split the bill for the $8 million project. Now some of them want the county to dip into a room tax fund to help cover future costs.
Commissioners will consider the proposal this week.
