Homeowners insurance to increase 4%

Insurance rates for some homeowners along our coast may be going up.

A settlement between the state and homeowners insurance companies has been reached. This allows for a four percent increase statewide.

A state insurance program doesn’t have the resources to cover coastal losses if a major hurricane occurs.

The state hopes the new agreement will allow private insurers to begin offering plans to homeowners.
