Horace’s Happy Halloween: Community rallies to bring joy to Clarendon resident

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Trick-or-Treaters paid an extra special visit to one man in Columbus County on Halloween evening.

Horace Cartrette felt a trick had been played on him in 2022 when no one came out for candy on Halloween. Fortunately, he was handing out a lot of sweets and was treated to good company this year.

Horace was disappointed he didn’t get trick-or-treaters at his home in the Clarendon community last year. Ahead of Halloween this year, his grandson’s wife Heather Cartrette made a social media post asking if people in Columbus County could drop by.

“He does so much for us and we love him so much so it was nice being able to do this for him,” Heather Cartrette said.

The post attracted hundreds of comments and shares. The community came out in droves on Tuesday night to treat Horace to a very happy Halloween.

“I just love to see it. I’ve saw it so many years and I just love to see it and I love to see the little children,” Horace Cartrette said. “I see these children grow up and they know me by name, a lot of them do, and I know them by name. Makes me feel pretty good.”

The Cartrette Family says they are grateful for the community’s support and they’re already looking forward to next Halloween.
