Hospital celebrates 40-year anniversary

WILMINGTON — Wilmington’s main medical center is celebrating a birthday.

New Hanover Regional Medical Center has 40 years of service behind it.

Monday the hospital’s CEO Jack Barto thanked his employees for their service by serving up some birthday cake.

The hospital first opened its doors back in 1967.

Barto says the medical center is celebrating its past by looking towards the future, calling it an economic engine for the community.

A similar celebration is coming up across town.

Cape Fear Memorial Hospital will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in August.
