Hostage training in Wilmington

In Wilmington, there were several streets around Floral Parkway blocked off.

The road closures allowed Wilmington Police to conduct their hostage rescue training exercises.
Police created several scenarios at the Hanover Credit union on Cherry Avenue.

The training helps WPD’s special enforcement response team respond safely to a hostage takeover.

Corporal Pat Pridgen of the Wilmington Police Department said, “These things really do happen, and when it happens we really want to be prepared, we want to have the man power to preserve life.”

Police perform these exercises at least four times a year. Wilmington Fire Department and EMS also participated.
