House Democrats want ethics changes after McCrory complaint
RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Democrats at the North Carolina legislature say a ban on outside earned income by Gov. Pat McCrory and other full-time elected state officials would increase transparency and public confidence about the actions of politicians.
House Minority Leader Larry Hall and Senate counterpart Dan Blue said Wednesday they will introduce legislation that includes the ban and makes changes to the financial disclosure form hundreds of elected and appointed officials must sign to require more detail.
The proposal comes two days after an advocacy group filed an ethics complaint against McCrory on a number of matters stemming from ethics forms he’s filed.
One accusation involves cash and stock compensation McCrory received shortly after his inauguration from Charlotte-based online mortgage broker LendingTree. McCrory served on the company board. The governor denies wrongdoing.
