House fire leaves family of 9 homeless

ROCKY POINT, NC (WWAY) — A housefire off Sandy Bend Road in Rocky Point Friday evening left nine people homeless.

Fire demolished the family’s uninsured home, leaving them with just the clothes on their back only days into the new school year.

“It could not happen at a worse time. It is just bad timing,” said family member Michael Arnold.

It’s a loss the family says they have dealt with once before.

“In 2011, we were living in Pamlico County and Hurricane Irene… we lost everything there,” said another family member Connie Arnold.

The American Red Cross is helping with food and shelter over the next several days. After that, the family hopes to start rebuilding their lives for the second time.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No one was injured.
