How one church made receiving ashes easy this Ash Wednesday

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — One church made Ash Wednesday easy for everyone this year, with ashes to go. If you didn’t have time to go to a church service today, you could just hit the drive thru.

We don’t all have time to make it to a service this Wednesday, but with “Ashes to Go”, you can still get your ashes within a matter of a few minutes.

A Wilmington reverend and pastor offered ashes to people on the go at Wesley Memorial UMC Wednesday afternoon. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., people could drive up and receive ashes along with a quick prayer.

It all only took a few minutes, and one recipient says this makes it easy for everyone to stop by.

“Even if you only have five minutes and you’re just passing by, you can still receive that blessing and have that experience,” Trae Setzer said. “I love the fact that they do this and I’m really proud that i’m a part of it.”

Setzer says he loves that this is an option because so many more people can participate in Ash Wednesday.

It only took each person about two minutes to get their ashes, and then they were on their way. The reverend says this is their fourth year doing this.
