Hundreds gather to protest offshore drilling
Hundreds of people came out to Wrightsville Beach on Saturday for a peaceful protest of offshore oil drilling.
It’s called Hands Across the Sand. Protesters formed a line and joined hands with everyone for fifteen minutes beginning at noon.
Those in attendance say they hope their message is heard both in Raleigh and in Washington.
“We’re all going to call and write our senators and try and change the voice of the American people because it needs to change,” said protester Jim Sullivan. “We need to understand that we don’t need offshore oil drilling.”
In addition to the event at Wrightsville Beach, there were about 750 gatherings like this across America drawing thousands of people to beaches coast to coast.
