Hundreds participate in Day to Remember Volleyball Tournament

Hundreds were spiking and diving their way to fight Alzheimer’s Saturday. The Sixth Annual Day to Remember Volleyball Tournament and Family Festival was held at Captain Bill’s Backyard Grill.

The event commemorates the life of William H. Musser, better known as Captain Bill, who suffered from Alzheimer’s before he died in 2003.

The Musser family organizes the event. It raises thousands of dollars each year to benefit Alzheimer’s patients.

“We can’t wait on government, state or federal. We as communities can come together, support and raise funds for what’s near and dear to our heart,” said event co-founder Dennis Musser.

More than two hundred players participated in this year’s tournament and hundreds of onlookers came out to support the cause. WWAY’s Jenna Caiazzo was mistress of ceremonies for the event for the second year in a row.

Event organizers encourage others to organize fundraising events to support causes that they care about.
