Hurricane Felix and Henriette strike on the same day

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico (AP) — For the first time since the National Hurricane Center started keeping track in 1949, twin hurricanes have made landfall on the same day.

Hurricane Felix swarmed across Central America's remote coastline as a Category 5 monster before it quieted down to a Category 1.

Hours later, sister storm Hurricane Henriette tore into the tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula. The Mexican government has declared a state of emergency in the region.

Felix has peeled roofs off shelters and stripped down homes. Forecasters worry the storm could unleash mudslides as it marches inland. Up to 25 inches of rain are expected to drench mountain cities. And the water in some Honduran towns is already waist deep, hours after the storm came onshore.
