Hybrid car shortage

The rapidly rising cost of gas has made hybrids hot. The combination gas and electric powered cars are in demand.

Thousands of hybrids are sold annually. But if you go to a dealership to get one, it’s likely you’ll be on the waiting list.

Toyota of Wilmington only has one hybrid on the lot.

High demand is not the only reason for the hybrid shortage.

According to “Automtive News” magazine, car companies are not producing batteries fast enough for hybrids in order to meet demand.

Supply problems are due to the lack of hybrid batteries.

Auto makers are looking at creative ways to boost suppliers’ battery production as its affecting the entire industry.

In the case of Toyota’s top selling Prius, the company says it’s playing catch up to make more hybrids available for buyers.

Toyota may open a new Prius factory in the U.S.
