Iler disappointed House didn’t vote on terminal groins
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The state legislature worked into Saturday morning before it finally ended session for this year. Representatives will not meet again in Raleigh until next year unless a special session is called. That means there are still many bills on the table that have not yet been brought up for a vote.
Brunswick County Rep. Frank Iler says he’s frustrated he won’t get a chance to vote on terminal groins for several more months.
“The main issue that has not gotten done is that we want to protect our inlets and beaches with terminal groins, and that has certainly been an issue where one man has basically stopped that in the House,” Iler, a Republican, said. “Speaker Hackney is a friend of mine, but I wish he’d let us vote on the issue.”
Coastal towns in our area want these jetty-like structures to help protect their beaches and inlets from erosion.
