In reversal, Leland to allow gated communities

LELAND, NC (StarNews) — Overturning a two-year-old ban of new walled-off neighborhoods, the Town Council voted unanimously Thursday to allow gated communities.

Ten developers have been urging the town to reconsider the 2014 ban on construction of new gated communities. D Logan, President of Logan Homes, claimed gated communities in Leland could generate over $9 million in tax revenues over the next 10 years.

Logan said about 340 of the 1,000 homes built in Brunswick County in 2015 were built in gated communities. Logan estimated 134 new homes in a gated community would be in demand in the Leland area.
