Ingram Planetarium gets new projector system in theater

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Ingram Planetarium in Sunset Beach capped off an year of upgrades and renovations to their full-dome theater this month with the installation of a new laser phosphor projector.

Staff says this projector will not only bring higher quality performance to the dome theater, it will also free up more time and resources for programming and production as the maintenance demands will be less.

In January, Ingram Planetarium received major improvements to the dome theater’s technology including state of the art, fully programmable, LED cove lighting that has been positively received by all of the Planetarium’s nearly 19,000 visitors, especially those that attend the laser music shows where live lighting has added layers of visual flair.

The new projector is scheduled to perform its maiden voyage into virtual space the weekend of March 2 and 3, with a formal launch to the public on March 9 at Ingram Planetarium’s monthly Stars at Sunset program.
