Inmate serving life sentence stabbed at Columbus Correctional Institution

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — An inmate at Columbus Correctional Institution was stabbed several times on Friday.

According to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, Earnest L. Crawford, 52, was stabbed in his arms and his back.

His injuries are not life threatening.

Crawford was taken to the hospital for his injuries.

No arrests have been made. Investigators say Crawford does not want to cooperate.

According to the NC Department of Public Safety, Crawford was convicted of murder in 2002.
