Inspection to slow overnight traffic on Wrightsville Beach drawbridge starting Sunday

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Expect delays if you’re trying to get on or off Wrightsville Beach late at night starting Sunday.

Crews will be doing routing inspection of the Heide Trask Drawbridge over the Intracoastal Waterway. The work starts Sunday at 9 p.m. and runs until 6 a.m. each night until May 18.

the NCDOT says drivers will encounter intermittent nightly lane closures during the work.

“The bridge will still be open to traffic,” Bridge Maintenance Engineer Adam Britt said in a news release. “But I recommend that drivers seek alternate routes to avoid delays.”

The bridge is the only way on or off the island by car.
