Intercultural Festival ‘brings the world to Brunswick County’

BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) – Hurricane Florence pulled a fast one on the Brunswick County Intercultural Festival, which is usually held outdoors in September.

The 14th festival was rescheduled for earlier Sunday at the Odell Williamson Auditorium in Bolivia.

It’s purpose is to “Bring the world to Brunswick County” and promote diversity and integration.

Mari-Lou Wong-Chong, the chair of this event said “The purpose of [the festival] is to highlight the different cultures here so that we’ll be more understanding, more aware, respect each other, respect our differences and by that we could probably, hopefully live in peace together despite our differences.”

Wong-Chong said that she and the volunteers take the entire year to plan the annual event and that they are still going strong, even with the rain check.
