Intern stole documents in slain Marine case

JACKSONVILLE — An intern in the Onslow County District Attorney’s Office says he expected to be arrested and charged with stealing documents in the case of a slain pregnant Marine.

The documents were part of the prosecution of Marine Cpl. Cesar Laurean, who is charged with murder in the death of 20-year-old Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach.

Robert Sharpe tells WITN-TV in Washington, N.C., that he expects to be charged with misdemeanor larceny. Prosecutor Dewey Hudson did not immediately return a call seeking comment, but plans to discuss the theft at 3 p.m. Friday.

Hudson told the television station the investigation centers on someone copying the documents and removing them from the office.

Laurean remains in Mexico, where he fled as authorities investigated Lauterbach’s disappearance.
