Interstate 40 crash leaves 38 hogs dead
CLYDE, N.C. (AP) — A crash on Interstate 40 near Clyde killed 38 hogs.
Officials closed the stretch of the freeway in Haywood County for eleven hours while crews cleaned the grisly scene.
The tractor-trailer had been carrying 95 hogs to a sausage factory in Tennessee.
Crews loaded the surviving hogs into trailers and took them to a private farm.
Truck driver Stuart Small of Tabor City says he's never been in an accident that has killed so many livestock in his 30 years of driving.
