Investigation underway into Columbus fire

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Columbus County Fire Marshal’s Office is working to find out what caused a early morning fire near Chadbourn.
According to a Columbus County Sheriff’s Office report, deputies were called to a structure fire at 15575 Peacock Road just after 7am Tuesday.
Columbus County Fire Marshal Jonathan Juhl says the person in the home claimed the fire started when a space heater ignited his bed while he was asleep.
After an initial assessment, no signs of an electrical fire were found.
The Columbus County Fire Marshal’s Office says the investigation remains active and updates will be provided once they are available.
