Investigation lands detention officer in jail

A Pender County Sheriff’s Office investigation has ended with the arrest of a detention officer. Thirty-three-year-old Sherwood Anthony Pickett faces multiple charges, including extortion and solicitation for crimes against nature.

The victim in this case is an inmate who showed up late for serving a weekend jail sentence. He was told to go home, and the officer allegedly followed him there.

Pickett is being held in a jail outside Pender County, under $150,000 bond.
