Investigation of NC town’s police completed
SPRING LAKE, N.C. — Officials in a small North Carolina town say the investigation of their police department is now in the hands of the district attorney.
The Fayetteville Observer reported that Spring Lake alderman Napolean Higgins said during a town meeting Monday that the State Bureau of Investigation has turned over its review to District Attorney Ed Grannis. Mayor Ethel Clark confirmed that.
Clark says Grannis hasn’t shared any details.
Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies have handled the policing of Spring Lake since May, when a judge effectively stripped the department of its remaining powers. The police officers hadn’t been allowed to investigate felonies since 2007.
The moves came after the SBI arrested two supervising officers and began investigating the department.
