Investigators believe fire that killed two intentionally set

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Investigators believe a fire that killed two people in Wilmington overnight was intentionally set.

The Wilmington Fire Department, Wilmington Police Department and SBI are investigating the fire in the 1900 block of Lingo Street that was first called in after 5 a.m.

WFD Battalion Chief David Hines say three other people were taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries after flames engulfed the home. Two of those individuals were released.

Hines says there were reports of another person missing, but that person has been located and was unharmed. Damage from the fire is estimated at $115,000. Red Cross is helping with the family during this tough time.

“Well we’ve met with the family at the hospital, and we made sure that they know that we’re going to be there for them over the next few days, trying to help them deal with the tragedy,” James Jarvis said. “We have both mental health resources available to them, grief counselors. As well as, you know, we’re going to help them with food, clothing, you know etc.”
