Investigators raid gaming businesses in Whiteville

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — More than 150 gaming machines and thousands of dollars in cash were seized by investigators after executing simultaneous search warrants at two game parlors in Whiteville.

According to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, the establishments were both located on Highway 701 North in Whiteville and were open during the raid.

Columbus County Sheriff’s Office seized more than 65 gaming machines and approximately $18,000 in cash from Jewel Café located next to the Holiday Motel on James B White Highway North in Whiteville.

At the 701 Business Center, located next to Dollar General on James B White Highway North, investigators seized over $27,000 in cash and more than 95 gaming machines.

According to a news release, undercover agents entered the gaming establishments on several occasions and played the available games during the investigation. Afterwards, they were given cash payouts for their winnings.

This investigation is ongoing and charges may be forthcoming.
