10,000 locals may be eligible for stimulus, not know it
The IRS says as many as 10,000 people in our area could still be eligible for an economic stimulus check and not know it. The IRS says it's mainly retirees, veterans and others who receive government benefits and do not usually file a tax return. If you are one of these people, all you have to do is fill out IRS Form 1040A. IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman says it will only be used to determine your eligibility for this stimulus payment.
"It's not gonna trigger an audit," Shulman said. "We're not gonna come and try to talk to you next year. This is the irs serving as the service provider for the government that's just trying to get money into the hands of the american people. And so send us your return. We'll send you your stimulus check. You won't hear from us again."
To get a copy of Form 1040A, go to the IRS website, call the IRS at (800) TAX-1040 or visit an IRS walk-in center.
