Issues concerning Oleander and College Road intersection

The intersection of Oleander Drive and South College Road continues to be a key issue for nearby businesses, residents, and traffic officials.

At yesterday’s Transportation Advisory Committee meeting, business owner Alvin Rogers presented a petition with 1,500 signatures. The petition opposes the DOT’s proposed plan of eliminating left-hand turns at the intersection. Rogers suggests one-way alternatives.

“The most major impact is widening College Road, $37 million for one additional lane, plus additional left-hand turn lanes that are going to have to be put in because they’re putting a median down the middle of College Road and you might have to go up four or five blocks to make a u-turn,” said Rogers.

Alvin Rogers said the Department of Transportation asked for a few more months to consider the public’s input on what should be done with the intersection.
