WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Laney High School Buccaneers would continue their losing streak Friday night as they lose 41-17 to J.H. Rose

The Buccaneers entered the game 0-1, while the Rampants were 2-0.

Laney got off to a fast start.

After a punt block by Mason Chesire, the Buccaneers drove into the end zone to take a 6-0 lead. Ty Duleba followed with a field goal to give Laney a 10-0 advantage after the first quarter.

J.H. Rose answered in the second quarter behind quarterback Chase Davis.

Davis threw two touchdown passes in the quarter, connecting with Daran Bell for the first score before finding Jaleek Parson for another touchdown. Parson made several defenders miss on the play as the Rampants rallied to take control.

J.H. Rose carried that momentum into the second half.

Davis connected with Shammah Cabell for another touchdown, extending the Rampants’ lead to 20-10.

Laney refused to go quietly. Freshman quarterback Buck Williams helped spark the Buccaneers’ offense, cutting the deficit to 20-17 and giving Laney a chance to get back into the game.

But J.H. Rose pulled away down the stretch, turning a close game into a comfortable victory and handing Laney another loss.

The 41-17 win keeps J.H. Rose unbeaten at 3-0 and extends Laney’s losing streak.
