James P. Morton chosen as next CFCC President, pending state board approval
WILMINGTON, NC (News release) — The Board of Trustees of Cape Fear Community College has selected James P. Morton as the next President of Cape Fear Community College. The Board’s choice of Mr. Morton as the College’s next President remains subject to (i) approval by the State Board of Community Colleges and (ii) final action of the Board of Trustees of Cape Fear Community College following State Board approval.
Mat White, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, praised the selection of Mr. Morton. “On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am pleased to announce this selection of Jim Morton as President of Cape Fear Community College,” Chairman White said. “In his service to the College as Chief Financial Officer, Executive Vice President, and Interim President, Mr. Morton has proven himself a forward-thinking and innovative leader who can guide the College to new levels of excellence. With his extensive business, finance, and public relations experience, Mr. Morton brings to this role those essential skills that an effective president must have. In addition to these skills, Mr. Morton has established strong relationships throughout the community with government, industry, and education partners, and he has earned the respect of the College’s faculty and staff. We look forward to submitting Mr. Morton’s appointment to the State Board of Community Colleges.”
Chairman White continued, “As Cape Fear Community College celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, we see tremendous opportunities for the College to continue its legacy of excellence while discovering new ways to fulfill its educational mission. President Morton will build upon a tradition of excellent service to our students, employees, and community, and he will strengthen the College’s vital role of being an economic engine and workforce provider for New Hanover and Pender counties. President Morton has already begun this process by hiring and retaining quality faculty and staff, implementing new initiatives to increase enrollment, and establishing new standards for providing quality instruction, training, and service to our students and community.
