January 21, saddest day of the year
WILMINGTON — An international day of sadness is what a researcher calls January 21.
British Psychologist Cliff Arnall calculated January 21 to be the saddest day of 2008; he calls it Blue Monday.
However, Blue Monday doesn’t seem to ring true to people in Wilmington some never heard of it. Sandra Wheelband says “I feel great it’s a gorgeous day it’s not raining, no snow”.
Arnall used a number of factors to determine the saddest day of the year, broken New Years resolutions, holiday debt, cold weather and the fact it’s been 3 weeks since the holidays.
Wheelband disagrees,”I think it’s hogwash, why would you have a blue Monday when we just had Christmas, new years, life is sweet”.
Blue Monday usually falls on the last monday of the last full week in January. Arnall calculates the happiest day of the year is around the last week in June.
