Jobseekers can now get face-to-face help at NCWorks Career Centers

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Looking for work can be stressful under the best circumstances but the coronavirus pandemic adds another level of complexity for those trying to find a job or a better career opportunity.

When the pandemic began earlier this year, NCWorks Career Centers closed their offices to the public but staff continued helping jobseekers virtually and by phone.

Starting this week, the career centers have reopened for those needing face-to-face help with their job search.

Individuals may schedule appointments by calling the numbers listed below or 855-NCWORKS.

An NCWorks staff member will collect contact information to schedule your appointment and discuss the procedure for accessing the center at the time your appointment.

“When arriving for an appointment, you will be asked to wait inside your vehicle until your appointment time,” said Ginger Brick, executive director of the Cape Fear Workforce Development Board. “We will call you in for your appointment using the cell number you provide us.”

Only a limited number of people may occupy the center at a given time, so they’re asking that you not bring guests and make arrangements for childcare prior to presenting for your appointment.

Job seekers will be asked to complete a screening questionnaire, complete a temperature check and required to wear face masks at all times while inside the career center.

Anyone indicating potential exposure or registering a temperature will be referred to utilize online virtual services.

If you are feeling sick or have been exposed to the COVID-19 virus, you should not come to the center. NCWorks staff can assist virtually via NCWorks.gov or 855-NCWORKS.

If you have questions about Unemployment Insurance claims, NCWorks Career Center is not the place to call. The most efficient way to file a new claim is to create an account and file online at des.nc.gov. You may call the Division of Employment Security (DES) at 888-737-0259.
