Joyce’s oak tree finally falls

After weeks of negotiation, the Joyce family’s giant oak tree finally came crashing to the ground.

It happened around 4:45 Wednesday afternoon. Family members left the house, because they said they could not bear to watch.

The Joyce’s had been in a dispute with Wilmington International Airport after the Federal Aviation Administration mandated nearby trees be cut down because of safety concerns.

The airport paid the Joyce’s more than $40,000 for the loss of their trees.
