Judge on her career: ‘It’s not about us’
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — An important woman in the Cape Fear is retiring.
Rebecca Blackmore said she has been a district court judge for New Hanover and Pender Counties for 21 years, but on New Year’s Day, she will wake up as a retiree. Blackmore ruled on many cases, anything from traffic violations to child custody battles.
She was also instrumental in starting the first substance abuse treatment facility for women in North Carolina. Blackmore said, for her, it has always been about helping people.
“It is. It’s not about us. It’s not about our black robe. It’s about the people who elect us to come in here and make decisions that address problems in their life, and in our community,” Blackmore said.
Tune into WWAY News Channel 3 Thursday to learn even more about Judge Blackmore, and hear from one of her colleagues about her career and contributions in the Cape Fear.
