Judge Lewis plans to file for reelection as cancer treatments progress
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick County Resident Superior Court Judge Ola Lewis says she plans to file for reelection this summer as she continues her battle with cancer.
Judge Lewis has been at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota since last fall receiving treatments for a rare form of liver cancer. This morning in a series of text messages, she told WWAY her treatments are going well.
“My doctor said my numbers were perfect!! I will begin radiation after 4 additional rounds of chemo!” Lewis wrote. “I will be receiving treatment until I am called to meet my Maker!!
Must get stents replaced every 90 days and frequent check ups!”
Lewis said she is not expected to leave Mayo until June 30. Before then, though, she plans to return home to Brunswick County to file for reelection when filing for judicial races opens to mid-June then fly back to Minnesota to finish her treatments there. She says she’s been given clearance to travel after flu season ends.
“Please keep the prayers coming! They give me strength and energy to endure! I know it is by His Grace I am #OlaStrong!,” Lewis wrote.
Friends and colleagues have organized prayer rallies at the Brunswick County Government Center in Bolivia during while she’s been gone. Many of them have also traveled to Minnesota to visit her during her treatments.
