Jury returns murder conviction for 2013 shooting near Tabor City

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — A Columbus County man will spend the rest of his life in prison for killing a Chadbourn man two years ago.

A jury today convicted Christopher Frione of first degree murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. A judge sentenced him to a life sentence without the possibility of parole plus 276 to 356 months.

On October 8, 2013 Columbus County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a shooting just outside of Tabor City on Shug Norris Road. Lee Travis Wright, 20, of Chadbourn, died. Another man wound up in the hospital.

Several other people were also charged in connection with the crime.
