Kenan school update
Duplin County school leaders say they had no choice but to change the admission policy at a local stem school.
Parents and students at the Kenan School of Engineering were outraged when they heard the school will be absorbed by the neighboring James Kenan High School next year.
The school board initially said it was due to a directive from a state superior court judge.
A clerk in Manning’s office, though, said Manning did not give the directive.
Today school officials said Manning said they had to meet certain benchmarks and the only way they could comply was to absorb the stem school.
