Krzyzewski brings Duke hoop dreams to life — for a price

DURHAM (AP) — Coach K Court isn’t just for Duke basketball players.

Once a year, 80 weekend warriors take to the hardwood floor at Cameron Indoor Stadium and take part in a fantasy camp with coach Mike Krzyzewski’s, the court’s namesake.

For $10,000, participants in the annual “K Academy” pull on personalized Blue Devil warm-ups and play for teams coached by J.J. Redick, Jay Williams and about 20 other former Duke stars.

One of them is Philadelphia 76ers forward and ex-Duke player Shavlik Randolph. He says the campers “definitely get their money’s worth.”

The camp gives Coach K a chance to raise money for charitable causes, and he says he doesn’t make any money from the camp. The roughly 750-thousand dollars in annual proceeds goes to scholarships at Duke and to the downtown Durham gym and community center that’s named for Krzyzewski’s late mother.

Coach K says the camp has “helped fund some really good things.”
