Kure Beach council sends political sign ordinance back to planning and zoning
KURE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The Kure Beach council sent back a political sign ordinance to its Planning and Zoning Commission.
Kure Beach Mayor Emilie Swearingen said the commission is going to clarify where signs can be put on town-owned land.
Swearingen said the town will only regulate the size of political signs on private property. She said political signs cannot be larger can 6 square feet.
Swearingen adds they will not push to regulate signs on state-maintained roads at all.
She said as far as signs near polling places go the town goes by the rules from the board of elections, which states that a political sign cannot be within 100 feet of a polling station within 24 hours of an election.
