Kure Beach Boardwalk receiving finishing touches before Memorial Day

Carolina Beach is not the only place getting ready for Memorial Day weekend. In Kure Beach, the boardwalk extension is almost complete for the unofficial start of the summer season.

Last year, residents were split over whether the town should extend the boardwalk. But now that it is almost done, some residents along Atlantic Avenue said it will be a big help. “It’s going to take out a lot of the foot traffic that’s on the road and it’s going to help with the street traffic, and it’s nice it’s beautiful,” said Kure Beach resident Bill Ferrell. “It’s going to be a good thing to look at, look at the ocean everyday and see the nice boardwalk.”

The boardwalk should be ready by Memorial Day, but with a struggling economy, Kure Beach had a bit of an early rush. Several hotel owners said they were booked because many people came to visit this weekend to beat holiday prices.
