Kure Beach must remove sandbags

KURE BEACH — Sandbags that have protected the riggings condominiums in kure beach for more than 20 years must be removed.

The Coastal Resources Commission came to a unanimous decision at a hearing this morning.

This isn’t the first time the c-r-c has told condo owners to remove the bags…they asked for their removal more than a year ago.

The Riggings’ attorney says they plan to appeal today’s decision while they pursue a permanent fix for the threat of beach erosion.

New Hanover County superior court will handle the appeal.
