Lab school initiative to begin at DC Virgo prep
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – Parents and staff at DC Virgo Prep Academy are talking about turning the school into a lab school.
It would partner with the administrative staff at UNCW.
Changing to a lab initiative will not alter the curriculum at the Academy, but UNCW officials say it will give them more power to help the school with best teaching practices.
DC Virgo currently is among the three lowest performing elementary schools in New Hanover County.
Tonight’s forum brought in ideas for what is needed to turn the school around.
“What are some of the teaching practices that go on in the classrooms? Where we have some people from the Watson College and the University work with the educators here at the school in a more intensive way than we do now,” says Watson College of Education Dean Van Dempsey.
UNCW officials expect to begin the lab initiative by next school year.
