Labor group in NC protests for higher wages

GREENSBORO, NC (AP) — A labor group is demanding higher wages and full-time work for North Carolina Walmart workers as the holiday shopping season ramps up.

The AFL-CIO affiliate for workers without a union plans to protest Monday outside a Greensboro Walmart store. The group called Working America says it wants the nation’s largest retail store chain to pay its employees $15 per hour.

The Greensboro event comes more than a week after the pressure tactics against Walmart led to a sit-in protest at a Los Angeles-area store. Nearly two dozen people were arrested after California authorities say blocked traffic.
