Lake Waccamaw man charged with murder; victim’s name released

LAKE WACCAMAW, NC (WWAY) — A Lake Waccamaw man is behind bars this morning after being arrested for a murder Saturday night.

Steven Craig Long, 47, is charged with murder. He is in the Columbus County Detention Center and has not been given bond.

According to Michelle Tatum with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, the murder happened around 7:30 p.m. Saturday. That’s when deputies responded to Ben Jones Road in Lake Waccamaw for a call about shot fired with gunshot wounds. When they got there, deputies four Bobby Lee Sessoms, 44, of Clarkton, dead in the home. They say he had been shot multiple times.

Investigators say they arrested Long at the scene for murder. He is scheduled for a first court appearance today.

An autopsy on Sessoms is being performed today at the Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh.

The sheriff’s office says the investigation continues.
