LaNasa plans to continue tax vote challenge
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Despite the state’s rejection, one former candidate for New Hanover County Commission says he won’t give up his challenge of May’s sales tax vote just yet. Justin LaNasa questioned the vote totals approving the sales tax hike.
Wednesday, the state Board of Elections rejected his lawyer’s request for an extension and threw out his case, but LaNasa says he will appeal the decision in Wake County Superior Court. He says he has evidence county commissioners committed voter fraud.
“Jonathan Barfield and Jason Thompson advocated and promoted by using county equipment and computers and literature to vote yes on that sales tax referendum,” LaNasa said during a live interview on WWAY NewsChannel 3 at 5:30 Thursday.
If Wake County Superior Court decides to hear LaNasa’s case, New Hanover County won’t be able to enact the increase until a ruling is made.
