Landfall Tradition golf tournament underway
WILMINGTON — Twelve men’s and 12 women’s collegiate golf teams from across the country are spending the weekend battling it out on the Nicklaus-designed golf course.
Last year the tournament brought in more than $100,000 for the UNCW golf program.
The women’s team from the University of Virginia and Tulsa’s men’s team walked away with the title last year.
The winning coaches have tips for aspiring golfers.
University of Virginia golf coach Kim Lewellen said, “Come out and watch, and if you have any young girls, junior girls, this is a great way to motivate them come out and watch these girls play. That would be my best tip, learn from them.”
University of Tulsa golf coach Bill Brogden said, “Your swing is perfect. If it doesn’t work for you than it’s not any good, so you have to figure out what works for you.”
The golfers tee off Saturday at 8 a.m. They’ll play as long as there is no lightning.
The event is free and open to the public.
